Work has begun on the first house at The Hollies, Rob and Emma's house (click here to see the plans). Once the foundations were all dug, work began to make the foundations on April 12th on a course with Neil May of Natural Building Technologies in the UK. Neil outlined why this house was using a traditional stone/lime foundation, the fact that they allow some flexibility in the building, and if many houses built like this are still standing after 500 years, chances are they are worth emulating! As well as this there are the environmental benefits from not using cement (the house is planned as a cement free house). Since then we have been continuing work, and hope to complete the foundations in around 6 days.
We will continue to add regular updates as we
progress.
