August
28th 2003 We
have been extraordinarily lucky with the weather
this summer. It has been perfect for cobbing, and
the buildings are looking great. Thomas and Ulrike's
house is up to the tops of the windows now, and is
looking lovely. Rob and Emma's house now has all
its joists in place for the upstairs, one section
of which is gorgeous radial beams which are really
stunning. We have built a lovely internal wall of
cordwood and cob, made with cedar from The Hollies
and our own recipe mix of hemp, lime, sand, clay
and lime. It looks amazing (see below), and was built
as part of a 3 day Natural Building workshop, by
students who, at the end of the 3 days, could stand
back and look at a wall they had built from floor
to ceiling and go "wow!".
We have now begun cobbing the upstairs on Rob and
Emma's house and hope to get to the point where the
roof can go on within a couple of weeks. The earth
floors course we planned has been put back for a
few weeks as we won't have the roof on in time. The
house is drawing many visitors, who are all very
impressed with the house and with cob and its possibilities.
We will post on some more new pictures soon....
